Dental Implants

A Dental Implant offers the patient a unique option for tooth replacement. An Implant, in the simplest of terms, is a substitute tooth root that serves as a foundation to accept a replacement tooth crown or cap over top. Dental Implants have the appearance and function of natural teeth, and encourage the continued growth of healthy bone where the implant was placed. Over time when a tooth is extracted, the surrounding bone can deteriorate and regress. This can change the appearance to the gum line and your smile.

What are the benefits of an Implant over other types of restorations?
  • Dental Implants offer a long-term solution to tooth extraction that includes a healthier smile, preserved bone, and minimal maintenance. A Dental Implant is placed in a multi-stage process that can take anywhere from 3-6 or 8 months depending on the health of the patient and your individual dental provider. For patients who qualify for Implant placement, the outcome is most times successful and very predictable.

Are you good candidate for Dental Implants?
  • Not all patients are good candidates for Dental Implants. Several factors including bone health, number of implants required, and underlying medical conditions can play a role in determining candidacy for dental Implant delivery. Our doctors will perform a clinical evaluation prior to Implant placement.

How should you care for your Dental Implants?
  • Dental Implants look, feel and should be cared for similar to your natural teeth. Practicing good hygiene habits, including twice daily brushing and flossing, in addition to visiting your dental professional for regular appointments will help preserve the integrity of your Dental Implant.

What type of anesthesia is used?
  • Depending on the overall health condition of the patient, most dental implants and bone grafting procedures are performed under local or IV sedation anesthesia within the office setting.

Do you have additional questions about Dental Implants? Call our office today and speak with one of our knowledgeable staff members! The team at Edison Lakes Oral Surgery is pleased to offer the latest in Implant technology, which includes the following services:

Single Tooth Implant

This type of implant takes the place of the natural tooth root, and provides the patient with a foundation from which to place a crown that is similar in shape, size, look and feel of a natural tooth. An implant is comprised of three separate parts; implant, abutment (this is the part of the implant that connects to the crown), and finally crown. There is a vast amount of supporting research to the efficacy, longevity, and predictable outcome of a dental implant.

Implant Supported Bridge

When more than one implant is desired, our doctors may speak with you about the Implant-Supported Bridge option. A traditional bridge, which your dental professional can synthesize, is essentially two healthy teeth serving as anchors from which a third tooth is placed or bridged between. If there is concern about the quality of your bone, an Implant-Supported Bridge may be recommended to you.

Implants for Overdentures

Our doctors offer implants as a way to partner with your denture specialist to provide a fixation solution for challenging-fit dentures. We will provide the implant anchor, similar to Single-Tooth Implant procedure described above, but the implant is designed with special connectors that "snap" onto the denture. It is our goal to work hand-in-hand with your denture specialist to provide you with the best denture solution possible, thereby improving the quality of your life.

Mini-Implants are an affordable and less invasive option for tooth replacement and/or denture stabilization. Although generally not as predictable as conventional or full-size implants, the Mini-Implants can be helpful in addressing short-term denture stabilization challenges. If our doctors determine that you are a good candidate for a Mini-Implant procedure, you will find that these implants are a convenient, comfortable, less-invasive and a more affordable option for tooth replacement.

Immediate Implants

Our team at Edison Lakes Oral Surgery is sensitive to the busy schedules of our patients and referring dental professionals. At times, our doctors may determine that immediate implant delivery can be an option for you. While we understand that immediate implants can provide a unique time-saving option, our doctors will evaluate your individual medical conditions, bone quality, extraction site tissue health, and a number of other factors before confirming same-day implant placement.
